Windsor Castle and Runnymede

Drive to Windsor Castle one of the earliest castles built around London by William the Conqueror in the late 11th century. Windsor is the oldest and the largest inhabited castle in the world and is still the principle residence of the British Royal Family, who even take their surname from this illustrious site. On this tour we visit the sumptuous State Rooms where foreign heads of sate are received and where knighthoods take place. We also visit St George’s Chapel with its intricate fan-vaulted ceiling and exquisite choir. This is where the Knights of the Garter convene once a year and it is also where many British monarchs are laid to rest including Henry VIII, Charles I and more recently Queen Elizabeth II. Drive back through Runnymede, home to several memorials including Magna Carta memorial. It was here King John signed the great charter of rights over 800 years ago, which today is seen by many as the foundation of modern democracy.
